We Need Your Help!
We’re excited to announce that in just a few days time, we will be embarking on the long offshore leg of our journey to the Caribbean. After sailing down the Chesapeake Bay and Intracoastal Waterway last week, we tucked our boat into a slip in Oriental, NC (courtesy of a very nice women we met in Annapolis) just in time to avoid a huge thunderstorm. Even tied up in our slip, the 40+ knot wind gusts were enough to keep our boat rocking and rolling all night. Around 1 AM, the jib sail managed to pull itself free from its wrap, and we spent the better part of an hour fighting the dark, wind, and rain as we furled it back up. Luckily, we had the helping hand of another fellow who keeps his boat at the marina. The boat is still safe and sound, and we are currently enjoying a couple days at home in Minnesota, celebrating Thanksgiving with our family and friends. We’ll catch a plane flight back to the boat on Saturday.
We are taking a bit of a leap of faith as we depart for the Caribbean. If we don’t reach our fundraising target of $18,500, we will receive none of the money that has been pledged to our cause. And at the time of this update, we are currently about $5,000 short of our goal, with only 6 days left to go.
We still need your help! Please, tell your friends, families, and coworkers about our website and Kickstarter, and ask them to make a pledge to support With the Winds. We must raise the remaining $5,000, as we are relying on the funds that we collect through Kickstarter to provide for the sailing and productions costs while at sea in the Caribbean, and to purchase necessary equipment as outlined in our budget.
If you are reading this and you haven’t yet pledged to our Kickstarter, we strongly urge you to do so. Even choosing to give a small amount helps, and you’ll be able to sponsor the expedition for a day of your choice, follow us along our journey via our website and blog, and see exactly where your money is going.
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement.
